Get Ready ... Seriously

Deep thinkers dig their bunkers!

Freeze dried food is a good, long-term foundation for a household preparedness program.

How many have food on hand that stores for 30+ years? Mountain House food in #10 cans is made up of a wide variety of delicious, award-winning entrees--the kind of foods Americans like to eat. And yes, it stores for 30 years or more.

At a time when near-term food supplies are increasingly at risk, for a few different reasons, this type of emergency food makes a lot of sense.

I order MH from our host. My Y2K supplies were expiring, and my requirements had changed. I did some quick analysis (which is my primary job function) and determined that while there are many providers of this type of packaged, dehydrated food, purchasing and using the buyers club discount was the most cost effective and efficient.

I am preparing a more detailed analysis, based on weight and nutrictional values, and will compare the major manufacturer's products.

Shipping cost is a huge driver in placing an order.

I also placed an order thru a thrid party for some nitro-packed #10 and #2.5 cans of TVP and other consumables. The vendor had some great specials. Shipping equated to 30% of the order. Ouch.

If you are on a budget, look fof free shipping, buyer clubs, and consider seriously the food items vs. cost.

Good input, CJ. I'd also point out, that in doing such analyses, one consider the value of shelf life in a food and the fact that years down the road, when the product is consumed, that normal (or even perhaps extraordinary) inflation will make that food a tremendous value/investment.

Absolutely! An in the right "buyers-club", smaller quantities, like a case or two of #10 cans, can be added to an individual's system on a monthly or quarterly basis, and fit into budgets easier. In the end, waiting for the perfect formula will fail; having your system planned, prepared (on-hand), and supplemented over time will get you thru the crisis.

I'm taking my preps in stages, as it is simply too expensive to get it all one lump sum. Got myself to the one-year level on food, though it'll store for only a year or two, then I begin rotation.
Very soon, I will be getting set up for true long-term storage.
